Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs was based on the kids book of the same name, but a lot changed from the page from the screen. The movie builds on the book by Judi Barrett and tells the origin story of how the town of Chewandswallow got its name and mysterious weather. Henry and his sister (the two characters from the book) are replaced by Flint Lockwood (voiced by Bill Hader), an ambitious inventor, and Sam Sparks, a young meteorologist (voiced by Anna Faris). The DVD is packed with extras, like the “splat” feature that lets you throw food at the screen while the movie’s playing. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs is one of 2009′s best animated films. It has humor for the whole family, great action sequences and awesome special effects. The concept is unique — an amateur inventor saves the town by creating a machine that turns water into food. But overuse of the machine causes a malfunction. Soon, building-sized food is falling from the sky, threatening the lives of everyone in town. Now it’s up to the inventor to destroy is own creation.
