Posted by Nathaniel Edwards on 27th February 2010

Over the next week, we get not one, but two baseball games coming out. There are tons of differences between the game we could look at for you to decide which one is best, but I just want to see how biased each game is toward specific teams! Simming Sports: FIFA 10

Posted by Nathaniel Edwards on 24th October 2009

Alright, FIFA 10 is finally here.  If you missed the last post, what I’m doing here is taking the big-name sports games and simming seasons in them to see how close they are to real-life results. Now, the soccer season isn’t even a fourth complete in most places, but we need to establish results now before tricky old FIFA updates the rosters later on in the year. Without further ado, let’s see just how it thinks two of this year’s major soccer (football) leagues are gonna turn out!

England’s Premier League: The top four in-game: Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool. Chelsea came next. We’ll see how that turns out, but one important error between real-life and the game here: Tottenham Hotspur came in 18th in the game, and they’re currently third in real life. Something’s up, there.

Italy’s Serie A: The league table came out to be Inter, Sampdoria, Juventus, then Roma in the game. The current real-life table is Inter, Sampdoria, Juventus, then Fiorentina, but Roma’s definitely coming up to higher spot in the future. In other words, FIFA was scary accurate on this one.

Simming Sports: MLB 09: The Show

Posted by Nathaniel Edwards on 17th October 2009

In this week’s gaming news post, we talked about the new FIFA. I’d like to announce that I am taking the realism of sports video games to task! I’m going to run through one season in whichever sports game I’m covering, then tell you how close it came to getting it right. Now, FIFA doesn’t come out until the 20th, so I’m sorry if I can’t tell you who’s going to win the Scottish Premier League just yet (it’ll totally be Hibernian, though).  I do have MLB 09: The Show sitting right here with me, though, and the MLB playoffs are in full swing, so here’s the way Sony’s baseball title thought the season would go:

In the playoffs, names in bold if team made playoffs in real life: Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, Los Angeles Angels, New York Yankees, New York Mets, Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers

So, I guess four out of eight ain’t bad. The AL was only off by one team, and the Tigers were about an out away from making it to the playoffs in real life. Unfortunately, MLB 09′s NL guess was terrible. The computer inside my alarm clock could have guessed the Dodgers would win their division, and the other three who made it in the game were pretty terrible in real life.

Who won the world series in my sim, you ask? Why, the CHICAGO CUBS did, for the first time in over a hundred years. That would have been a lot more exciting than how this postseason is turning out in real life. Check back next week for my FIFA sim results!

Serena and Venus Set for All-Sister Wimbledon Final (Again)

Posted by Kidzworld on 6th July 2009

Venus Williams Wimbledon

For the second time in as many years the Wimbledon women’s championship comes down to a battle between sisters Venus and Serena Williams. We think Venus is the woman to beat at Wimbledon as she’s already got five titles to her name. However, Serena may just be the best women’s tennis player in the world right now. She’s also got a couple of Wimbledon titles of her own to brag about at the dinner table.

Federer Advances to French Open Final

Posted by Kidzworld on 18th June 2009

Rogere Federer French Open

After a five set tennis marathon today at Roland Garros in Paris, France Roger Federer advanced to the French Open Final. Federer had to come back from being down two sets to one to 6’6” Argentine Juan Martin Del Potro. Despite being ahead, the massive Del Potro looked to be completely gassed after the third, giving up the fourth 6-1. He played valiantly in the fifth, staving off a match point, but an early break by Federer proved to be the difference as he went on to win the final set 6-4. This will be the fourth time in four years Federer has reached the French Open Finals. It is the only Grand Slam he has never won. He plays Robin Soderling of Sweden. The two have played each other nine times, with Federer winning all nine contests.

Jameer Nelson to Play in NBA Finals

Posted by Kidzworld on 18th June 2009

Jameer Nelson NBA Playoffs

Looks like all the rumors surrounding Orlando Magic point guard Jameer Nelson are true. According to ESPN’s Rachel Nichols, Nelson is one tough kid and will be activated for the NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers, despite repeated statements from the team that his season was over after a shoulder injury in February.

Nelson for his part has been trying very hard to get back on the court. “I’m not saying I’m any tougher or stronger than anybody, but I’ve been known to do some amazing things sometimes,” Nelson told reporters earlier in the week.

If Nelson does return and can put in some valuable minutes it could drastically help the Magic against the Western Conference’s best team. Nelson played a big part in helping the Magic sweep the two contests they played against the Lakers in the NBA’s regular season. Nelson had 27 points in a 106-103 victory in Orlando on Dec. 20 and 28 points in a 109-103 Magic win in L.A. on Jan. 16.

Venus Williams Out of the French Open

Posted by Kidzworld on 18th June 2009

Venus Williams said auvoir to the clay courts of Roland Garros and the French Open today. She lost to the 29th-ranked player in the world Agnes Szavay of Hungary.

Truth is the contest wasn’t even close and it appeared Venus was quite tired after nearly losing in three sets in her second round match. Szavay moved on to the fourth round with a tidy 6-0, 6-4 victory.

It was the third straight year that Williams has lost in the third round of the French Open. After the loss Venus will have to settle for sitting and watching her sister Serena Williams before she starts preparation for the grass court championships at Wimbledon.

New Shawn White Snowboarding Game

Posted by Kidzworld on 18th June 2009

Shawn White and Richard Branson

Looks like snowboarder Shawn White is taking his video game title to new heights. Apparently White is going to offer a new version of his game to snowboard and video game fans later in the year. Shawn White Snowboarding: World Stage will be made exclusively for the Nintendo Wii. That means a more physical approach to the game using the Wii balance board, which should be very cool for kids. The company that makes the game says that players will trek across the globe–from Canada and the United States to France and Japan–competing in the high-profile snowboard contests White is famous for winning. Other details about the game weren’t made available but word is more should been know about Shawn White Snowboarding: World Stage in early June.
