Star Trek on DVD: Set Your Phasers to “Stunning”

Posted by sindykw on 18th November 2009

The new Star Trek movie had a lot to live up to, but thanks to a fast-paced storyline, an updated look and killer special effects, diehard Trekkies and newcomers to the franchise all came out of the theatre with their phasers set to stunning. Director J.J. Abrams has said that he had the DVD release in mind while he was shooting Star Trek  and it certainly shows: the blu-ray is packed with extras, including more deleted scenes than you can shake a tribble at. Check out the DVD review of Star Trek on Kidzworld to see a full list of bonus features.

DVD Roundup :: Scooby-Doo & Land Of The Lost

Posted by sindykw on 30th October 2009

Scooby-Doo and the gang are back at it in another volume of episodes. Scooby-Doo: Hello Mummy is a Halloween-styled offering, although big fans of the original 60′s show might want to just pick up the whole first season of Scooby-Doo Where Are You! instead of these four measly episodes.

Land Of The Lost is another 70′s-inspired output that got its release on DVD this week, though only die-hard Ferrell fans need to pick up this tedious summer flop. A scattered storyline, disappointing jokes and phone-in acting on Ferrell’s part adds up to an hour and a half you’ll never get back. It’s pretty bad when you’re outacted by Sleestaks.

DVD Roundup: Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs Diamond Edition

Posted by sindykw on 18th October 2009

Snow White gets its eighth release since Disney’s first fully-animated film came to theaters way back in 1937. This time the groundbreaking story is being released on a Disney Blu-Ray DVD that’s bursting with extras and comes packaged as Diamond Edition Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs. If the classic story doesn’t satisfy your desires for all things dwarf-related, you can mine the DVD extras:

  • About Toby Bluth: Creator of DisneyView art, the technology that extends the image beyond the conventional 4:3 frame to “fill the otherwise dark edges of the screen with beautiful custom imagery.”
  • Audio Commentary: Led by the guy who started it all, Mr. Walt Disney.
  • The Princess And The Frog: Take a sneak peak at the latest Disney feature.
  • Snow White Returns: Check out the storyboards from a brand-new Snow White sequel that (thankfully) never got made.
  • Mirror, Mirror On The Wall: The magic mirror will find the secret princess inside you and then ask that princess to phone you with a personal message! I’m more than a little bit excited about this one.
  • The One That Started It All: Learn all about the impact the original movie made on the world.

    DVD Roundup

Posted by sindykw on 6th October 2009

Monsters Vs. Aliens was released on DVD last week–it comes jam-packed with extras including a whole other DVD called B.O.B.’s Big Break that chronicles an attempted escape by the captive monsters pre-Susan era. The visuals are stunning but the story leaves a little to be desired–style wins out over substance on this one, but it’s so nice to look at you almost don’t mind the tedious meandering story.

Ghosts of Girlfriends Past is another hot DVD release that showcases the trademark bro stylings of Matthew McConaughey. The movie mirrors the classic Charles Dickens tale, A Christmas Carol and shows McConaughey’s Connor Mead the error of his womanizing ways. The story is formulaic but if you like McConaughey, you’ll enjoy this vehicle for his familiar boyish arrogance.

    Seth <3′s Sandler

Posted by sindykw on 1st October 2009

Part of Seth Rogen’s appeal lies in his ability to warm your heart and shock you at the same time–he’s the quintessential teddy bear with a potty mouth. But he’s not the first comedian to mix sentiment and swear words: Seth says a lot of his inspiration comes from the comics before him. Adam Sandler is one of his idols and Seth got to star alongside his hero in Funny People. About Sandler, Seth says:

“I remember when I got my first Adam Sandler CD and it was the funniest thing I`d ever heard in my entire life, and continues to be.”

If the rumors are true, Seth will get to live another dream when he stars in Ghostbusters 3, the sequel to his favorite movie. He’ll also be playing a superhero as the title character in The Green Hornet that’s due out in late 2010.

    You’re the one

Posted by Asmi on 30th September 2009

Here’s a song writen by one of my very close friend. I thought it was lovely and wanted to share it with everyone. :)

Laying on my bed wishing that you were here,
Staring at the ceiling it all becomes clear,
I have never felt this way ever before,
I just want to hold on to you more and more.

Every day I fall more in love with you,
Every single word of this is so true,
I can’t stand the thought of this feeling gone,
To take it away from would be wrong.

    You are,
    The girl that I want
    And you are,
    The girl that I need
You’re the girl I can never keep my mind off of
    Yes my baby you are,
    You’re the one.

I can always count on you,
To put a smile on my face when I’m feeling blue,
You’re the most beautiful thing I have seen,
You’ll never know how much you mean to me.

    You are,
    The girl that I want
    And you are,
    The girl that I need
You’re the girl I can never keep my mind off of
I don’t care what anyone else says.
    You’re the one.

    Brandon Bryant’s Little White Lie

Posted by sindykw on 2nd September 2009

Brandon Bryant danced up a storm on Season Five of So You Think You Can Dance, but he still lost out to Jeanine Mason. Was it his lack of style? His bad attitude? Maybe the judges were still sore about the little white lie he told while auditioning for Season One.

Apparently Brandon filled in his age as eighteen on the forms–the minimum age requirement for SYTYCD contestants–but soon felt pressure from his mom to spill the beans: he was only fifteen at the time.

After that, the producers gave him the boot, but Brandon was back on stage in no time, auditioning for Season Four. He couldn’t crack the Top 20 in that round, but, as his fans will attest, he really found his footing in Season Five.

Find out more about Brandon Bryant on Kidzworld.

    Sheraa and Marlow (with pictures)

Posted by Kidzworld on 20th July 2009

    Hey there,

Sorry for not writing about myself for so long. I’ve been busy, with stuff. What stuff? Work stuff. Day before yesterday I conducted my first class and it was not bad, it was quite good. The students loved me and I liked them too. They weren’t as evil as I thought they’d be. The picture I drew didn’t come out right but they drew it pretty well. There was this little kid who was totally in love with Miley Cyrus and I found that really funny, for some odd reason. I’ll be teaching two classes on this Wednesday, so that’ll be exhausting. But this is quite fun for a person like me who doesn’t get on well with little kids.

Anyways, I don’t think I’ve mentioned about how my sister in law’s cat, Sheraa is living with us for a while, since their family is on vacation. In the beginning, Marlow and the other kitty didn’t get on well, at all. They used to fight like cats and dogs, bite, scratch, God, it was a nightmare. But now, they’re like best buddies. They can’t live without each other. Marlow will come for Sheraa’s rescue as soon as he sees that we’re trying to feed him hairball remedy or if he starts meowing. It’s the same with Sheraa. I wonder how Marlow will behave when Sheraa’s family gets back and he leaves. The funny part is when we got Sheraa.

He was my brother’s friend’s cat and my brother brought him home for just one night, to see if our cat and their cat would get along. Back then we thought he was a female; he was so hairy that… We couldn’t figure out if it’s a girl or a boy. I know that’s really funny, but that’s one of the reasons why we got him to spend the night at our place to see if Marlow and “Lisa”(the name we gave him when we thought he was a girl,) will fall in love or not.

Anyhow, when we got him, his stomach was upset so I told my brother’s friend that his cat has some health issues and should be taken to the vet’s immediately but, as soon as he heard about the health problem, he quickly changed his mind and said “oh, we don’t want that cat anymore, why don’t you give it away or keep it yourself.” They were the worst owners ever. Sheraa was in a bad condition when he came to our house; he was dirty, so dirty, had chewing gums and tooth picks stuck in his fur and was very unhealthy. Now, since I have a cat (Marlow) I am very touchy about them, so I couldn’t have abandoned the little thing. So I decided to take him to the vet, get him checked and try to find a good owner for him. And that’s when we found out that Sheraa was a boy (when we went to the vet’s.) Fortunately, Yasmeen’s brother, when he saw the little 5-month-old-kitten, decided to adopt it. I was very happy because they’re really good people and he promised to look after him. So that’s Sheraa’s little story. However, my 10-month-old kitten/cat has always been looking for company and ever since Sheraa arrived at home, he’s stopped meowing to go outside or do anything that will annoy us in anyway. They’re both usually playing with each other and it’s really cute. Sometimes I think of getting another cat but, we’ll see.

So yeah, I thought I’d tell you guys about those two as my friend ninja girl, suggested.

On the left hand side is a picture of Nazia and the two cats. Marlow’s the American Siamese and Sheraa’s the grey Persian Smoke. There’s another picture of just the cats.

    Take care, see ya
