Whip It may seem like just a sports movie for girls, but the dizzying roller derby sequences and basic premise—that everyone needs to figure out where they belong—will appeal to guys and girls. Ellen Page plays Bliss Cavender, and yes, despite playing another precocious teen, she manages to duck out of Juno‘s shadow. The only baby in this movie is Bliss’ mom—who seriously needs to grow out of her obsession with pageants. Check out the full movie review of Whip It OR Read more movie reviews on Kidzworld.

Tooth Fairy is a bit like a trip to the dentist–by that I mean, it’s boring and painful and you might fall asleep. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson does his best, flashing those pearly whites at the camera and mugging it up with his newfound fairy wings, but not even the sight of a grown man in a tutu can save this doomed flick. It’s sad to see so much talent going to waste too–you have to wonder what greats like Julie Andrews and Billy Crystal were thinking signing up for this one. Still, if you’re under six, you might giggle at a few scenes, but anyone over seven should steer clear. Check out the full movie review of Tooth Fairy OR Read more movie reviews on Kidzworld.

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs was based on the kids book of the same name, but a lot changed from the page from the screen. The movie builds on the book by Judi Barrett and tells the origin story of how the town of Chewandswallow got its name and mysterious weather. Henry and his sister (the two characters from the book) are replaced by Flint Lockwood (voiced by Bill Hader), an ambitious inventor, and Sam Sparks, a young meteorologist (voiced by Anna Faris). The DVD is packed with extras, like the “splat” feature that lets you throw food at the screen while the movie’s playing. If you’re a fan of disaster movies, or just like meatballs with your spaghetti, check out the DVD review of Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs on Kidzworld.

Disney’s The Princess And The Frog signals a return to the 2-D animation of the Nineties. With Beauty And The Beast, Aladdin and The Little Mermaid as its predecessors, The Princess And The Frog had some stiff competition, but with a strong storyline (albeit a formulaic one) and colorful characters, The Princess And The Frog delivers. With this newest animated adventure, Disney also introduced its first African-American leading lady and the story does a nice job of illuminating the bayous of New Orleans. All in all, The Princess And The Frog is a sweet, enjoyable addition that’s destined to become another Disney classic–if not another heavily-merchandised one. There’s always that one guy or girl that you never got up the courage to talk to in high school. Denis Cooverman had one such girl, so he uses his valedictorian speech to declare, “I Love You, Beth Cooper!” Denis has spent the last four years sitting behind Beth in all of his classes, staring longingly at her beautiful back and fantasizing about what could have been. After he spills his guts for the speech, Beth surprises everyone by showing up at his house. What ensues is a tedious night of bad, raunchy jokes, tired cliches and long, drawn-out scenes that never go anywhere. Check out the DVD review of I Love You, Beth Cooper on Kidzworld to read more about this sad attempt at a teen comedy.
